First Parish Church in Plymouth is the oldest continuous church in New England.

The congregation has a long tradition of religious freedom and faith that dates back to the pilgrim landing and beyond. We trace our origin back to the year 1606 when a group of dissenters from the Church of England banded together in Scrooby. In 1620 part of the Leyden congregation set sail aboard the Mayflower, seeking the freedom to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience in the New World.
This history brings us a sense of pride and joy, but we also realize that the present and future need a fresh commitment to maintain a religion of the open mind and heart.
Freedom of belief is foundation to Unitarian Universalism. We affirm the worth of all human beings and the integrity of individual thought and action. As a liberal religious community, we share the quest for a practical religion based on deed, not creed.

Our Minister Rev. Jay Libby. Sermons of Reverend Jay |
April 20, 2010 Dear Members and Friends of First Parish, Your Ministerial Search Committee is extremely pleased, actually thrilled, to announce that the Rev. Jay Libby will be the next settled minister of First Parish in Plymouth. Rev. Jay will begin his ministry with us on August 1, 2010. We will provide information on this website regarding his preaching schedule. This is a very exciting time for First Parish. Rev. Jay is a compassionate and sensitive individual. He will bring those qualities to his interactions with all of us, especially those who need the comfort of a minister. He is thoughtful and creative preacher, who brings a wide range of life experiences to the pulpit. He strives to step out of the ordinary into the world of possibility. His sermons have been described as well-crafted, thoughtful, and meaningful.First Parish is a congregation rich in spirit, energy, and other resources. I hope you will join us for worship.
In Faith, I wish to thank the other members of the Search Committee for all their hard work during the past 14 months: Julia Thomas, Amy Palmer, Mike Lisi, Valerie Peck and Rick Starkweather. |
